SECTION 20 STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES
GENERAL POLICY
Where and when appropriate, statistical techniques are employed to verify the acceptability of process capability and product characteristics. The Quality Assurance department is responsible for identifying the need for the use of statistical techniques. Written procedures (QAPs) implement and control the application of statistical techniques.
PROCEDURAL POLICIES
1. Identification of Need
1.1 The Quality Assurance department identifies the need for the use of statistical techniques.
1.2 Statistical techniques may be needed in controlling production processes and establishing inspection sampling procedures.
2. Process Control
2.1 When required and directed by the QA department, statistical techniques are employed in process control and analysis. Personnel performing process control are provided with charts, tables, and other instructions in the use of the relevant statistical techniques. General Process Specification G9027, Statistical Techniques, governs the application of statistical techniques to process control.
3. Statistical Sampling
3.1 When required and directed by the QA department, statistical techniques are employed in determining sample sizes for the receiving and in-process inspections. Personnel performing the inspections are provided with charts, tables, and other instructions in the use of the relevant statistical techniques. General Process Specification G9027, Statistical Techniques, governs the application of statistical techniques to inspection sampling.
